Empowered Menopause

Until it hit me, I never understood the impact menopause can have on a woman. I wasn’t even interested in reading a book my good friend gave me way before my cycle-time was over – “The Silent Passage” by Gail Sheehy http://bit.ly/silent_passage.

My cycle ended abruptly, right after having dengue fever and with it came insomnia. I never had problems sleeping before – albeit I was a light sleeper. I experienced first-hand how debilitating insomnia can be. Then came the weight-gain – which I never really needed to be concerned about “before”. Hot flushes assaulted me in the most unlikely places, for instance in a cold air-conditioned bank. But my most pressing concern was my DNA-set up to get osteoporosis, a silent illness that was prevalent in my family.

Not everyone experiences the same symptoms or all of the possibly 34 symptoms of menopause there can be http://bit.ly/34_symptoms_menopause. How we cope with these changes depends on our lifestyles, foods and stress-level as well as our basic hormonal profile, constitution and heritage.

I have found solutions that worked for me and am continuing my research to find that subtle balance with methods that support and empower my body, my mind and my soul. I love to share those with anyone looking for a way to have this important passage of life be one of empowerment and health rather than one of detriment and restriction.

So, although I do handstands and backbends and more at age of 55 I believe in a solid foundation, from which we build our practise – without limitations – until the day we go. Too often I witnessed the hurry with which a student wants to progress, only to get hurt and stop practicing all together. Hence, I developed these foundational Yoga & Naturopathy Courses that will set the pace for injury-free and good Yoga practice for life. All the tidbits of information about nutrition for healthy bones & joints will enrich your knowledge and empower your choices in health.

Yoga has been part of my life for 30 over years. It has changed and evolved according to what I needed at the time. However, according to research http://bit.ly/12minYoga_Osteoporosis, it needs to become stronger to counteract the tides of time that work against us by the time we reach the age of around 40. I believe that we all can regain our strength and flexibility no matter what age we are.

And – if you think you are too young to be concerned about osteoporosis, arthritis or any deterioration of your health – think again. Research has shown that prevention starts in youth, as young as 12 years old.
